Less work, longer‑lasting shrubs
Would you like beautiful, bushy roses without the risk of yearly hard pruning and complicated winter protection? Here we explain what makes PharmaRosa® own-root, cutting-propagated roses different: natural shrub shape, renewal from the crown, long life cycle. You will see why aesthetic shaping is usually all you need, and what to expect in the first 1–2 years. Which advantage will bring You real peace of mind in your garden?
Minimal care, maximum enjoyment
Our roses do not require regular maintenance pruning – to achieve the desired shrub shape, aesthetic shaping is sufficient.
Regenerative growth, long‑lasting plants
Our roses continuously renew their shoots from their own root system, so they can remain vigorous for decades – under suitable conditions they may even live for more than 50 years.
Nature‑based propagation, more resilient roses
We propagate our roses vegetatively, by cuttings. This sustainable method ensures that every single plant preserves the original appearance, growth habit and regeneration potential of the variety.
Minimal care, maximum enjoyment – regenerative, own‑root roses propagated from cuttings
We propagate our roses vegetatively, by cuttings. This sustainable method ensures that every single plant reliably preserves the original characteristics of the variety: appearance, growth habit and regeneration potential. The essence of propagation by cuttings is that the new plant is built from identical tissue origin: the root system and the shoots come from the same plant “unit”, so the entire rose system works as one.
One important consequence of this uniform structure is that own‑root roses can use their internal regulation to maintain a root–shoot balance. Thanks to this, the plant generally forms by itself the natural shrub shape characteristic of the variety, which is why it does not require regular maintenance pruning. To achieve the desired shrub appearance, aesthetic shaping is usually sufficient.
After planting, once Your rose has arrived and You have planted it, there is generally no need for pruning in the first two years: it is worth allowing the plant to establish itself and “settle” into its place. Later it still needs very little intervention; usually it is enough to remove dead shoots, and if You have a preferred shape, You can easily maintain it with some light aesthetic shaping. Severe pruning is generally not necessary.
The own‑root structure offers another long‑term key advantage: continuous renewal. Our roses can regularly produce new shoots from their own roots, so the shrub can be kept naturally fresh, remain balanced in the long term and continue to show the shrub form typical of the variety. Under suitable conditions the plant remains vigorous for many years, even decades – in favourable situations it may live for more than 50 years.
If the shoots are damaged by frost or something else, with proper nutrient and water supply the rose can rebuild itself from the roots. In contrast, the regeneration of grafted roses is mostly limited to the area around the graft union. As there is no plant part of different origin in our case, the rose remains uniform in structure throughout, which in practice often results in better regeneration, more balanced development and in many cases greater resistance to diseases.
Exclusively with PharmaRosa® technology
Self‑sustaining, own‑root rose cultivation is still a relatively little‑known and rarely used technology in Europe today. Drawing on more than 15 years of development, we have created a unique method that allows us to grow own‑root roses economically, with reliable quality and in large quantities.
Roses grown by the PharmaRosa® producer group are produced in the spirit of environmentally conscious gardening – they carry natural characteristics that ensure, in the long term, maximum aesthetic enjoyment in Your garden with minimal maintenance.
